MEET TRAVIS

Midway is proud to spotlight Travis Taylor, the General Manager of the Idaho region for our ColdTech brand. He is known for his work ethic, effective leadership, and devotion as a father and husband beyond work.

A LEADER IN TRANSITION

ColdTech is one of Midway’s largest employers with 12 office locations throughout the West. When Travis’s first manager at ColdTech moved from Idaho to Utah to be back with his family, Travis remained in Idaho as the sole technician, based in the Boise area. He describes the experience as nerve-wracking and a bit isolating at times.

ColdTech believed in him and empowered him to build his own team. He can easily recall each individual he hired and what they brought to the table. Once his team reached six technicians, he hired a service manager and was able to focus on expanding the ColdTech reach throughout Idaho.

Travis was surprised upon learning that ColdTech would be joining Midway in 2019. However, Midway quickly visited Boise to provide reassurance. They explained, "We're just here to support you. Let us know what you need, but continue doing what you're doing." He realized that "nobody is just a number at Midway.”

THE MIDWAY BOOST

Joining Midway has proved timely for ColdTech’s growth. As Travis describes it, the new structure and guidance have helped make ColdTech “the best in the West.” He says this has come through Midway’s help with fleet management, budgeting, access to capital, legal support, synchronized standards, and better benefits for employees. For example, while he speaks fondly of his first service van with its 130,000 miles and dents and rattles that represent all the work he put in, he’s grateful that Midway has a system for identifying new vans and getting great pricing. 

Travis also appreciates the collaborative spirit with Midway’s other brands, sharing, “It's a blessing to me to be able to have the support and be able to reach out for guidance to any of Midway’s sister companies that have already experienced things I’m going through.” This has included personal advice about communication strategies, manpower to get jobs over the line, hiring advice, and support in mastering service specialties. For example, he refined his skillset as a technician for years in refrigeration, but he’s been able to seamlessly expand into HVAC services with regional Midway support.

THE BIG PICTURE

At a personal level, Travis had always aspired to manage his own operation. He feels like his expanded responsibilities under Midway have helped him adjust and fulfill this goal. He notes, “Now that I am a general manager and I see business operations, I’m glad I didn’t start my own business. All I have to do is be responsible for growing this business and taking care of my employees.” And while he cherishes his independence as a leader, he has also found it empowering to work with other Midway leaders. "We share the same understanding,” he notes, “the same mindset, and the same goals."

Travis is known at Midway for going above and beyond in his work, but he is most of all committed to his wife and three boys. He will fondly share stories of helping sleepless kids out just hours before heading out to an early work appointment. He credits his career path at ColdTech and Midway for creating the stability they need. 

At Midway, we believe that success stems from local leadership. Travis’s case is a perfect example of this. We are grateful for all he brings to Midway, his employees, and the clients served by ColdTech.
